Dr Julie Young
Dr Julie Young is Senior Lecturer in Human Nutrition and Food Science in the Department of Applied Sciences. She is also Programme Leader for the BSc Human Nutrition Programme, as well as the MSc Nutritional Science programme and is a Registered Nutritionist.
Dr Young completed her BSc (Biochemistry) and MSc (Human Nutrition and Metabolism) at Aberdeen University before moving to Robert Gordon University to complete her PhD in biomarkers of oxidative stress in models of schizophrenia, involving human trials and cell culture studies.
Julie has expanded her work in the mental health field where she has participated in research looking at using adjunctive treatments for people with eating disorders. She has been involved in a Scottish Government funded public engagement project aimed at young people to raise awareness of obesity and its co-morbidities. Current research includes food provision for the under fives, as well as evaluation of Premiership Rugby’s Something to Chew On school based project.
Julie has also delivered nutrition training courses to Hartlepool local authority employees and is has provided dietary analysis consultancy to HMP Holme House.
